Crates
Street, Paddock and Founders crates, the real odds for each, and the pity rule that guarantees a Rare or better.
How crates work#
A crate holds one car. When you open it the game rolls the rarity using the odds below, then rolls the colour (see Cars). The odds are the same for everyone and they are published here on purpose: you should always know your chances before you open a crate. The shop shows them too.
You can buy several crates in one go (up to 10 per order). The price you see is the price you pay: if the price changes while you are looking, the purchase is refused and you can try again at the new price. Prices are shown in TORQ with a small dollar reference.
The three crates#
| Crate | Available | Pity | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Street | Always | Yes | A worn plywood crate. Almost always Common, with a small chance of something better. |
| Paddock | Limited sale window | Yes | A race-team flight case. A real chance at Rare, and an Ultra Rare now and then. |
| Founders | Limited sale window, 300 crates ever | No | The vault. Mostly Uncommon and Rare, with the best chances of Ultra Rare and Epic. Every car carries a gold Founders edition badge. |
The Founders price rises a little with every crate sold, so the earliest buyers pay the least. When the 300 are gone, they are gone. The shop shows how many are left and how long the sale lasts.
Odds per rarity#
| Crate | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Ultra Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Street | 80% | 15% | 3.5% | 1.1% | 0.3% | 0.1% |
| Paddock | 52% | 32% | 11.5% | 3.2% | 1% | 0.3% |
| Founders | 18% | 42% | 27% | 9.5% | 2.8% | 0.7% |
Each line adds up to 100%. For example, in a Street crate a Legendary is about 1 in 1,000.
After the rarity, the colour is rolled with the same chances for every crate: Gray 45%, White 28%, Blue 17%, Green 8%, Red 2%.
Pity: a safety net#
Street and Paddock crates have pity. If you open 15 crates of the same type in a row without getting a Rare or better, the next crate of that type is guaranteed to be Rare or better (Rare, Ultra Rare, Epic or Legendary).
- The count is kept separately for Street and for Paddock.
- Any Rare or better resets the count, even if it came before the 15th crate.
- It also works inside multi-buys: if the 15th crate falls in the middle of your order, the next one is the guaranteed one.
- The shop tells you how many crates are left until your next guarantee, and the opening scene shows a PITY ribbon when it kicks in.
- Founders crates have no pity.
The opening#
Opening a crate is a short show: the crate shakes, the lid cracks, the car rolls into the light with its grade card. You can skip any opening, or skip them all and see a summary grid of what you got.
Other ways to get a car#
Cars can also be built from parts in the Workshop. A build is a chance roll too, and the Workshop shows what can come out before you build. You get the parts by racing, and the Workshop shows what can come out.
